Mr. Douglas is a seasoned Planner, Project Manager and bulk handling systems specialist with 30 years of progressive experience in the planning, layout, design, and operations of ports and dry bulk terminal facilities. Mr. Douglas has been responsible for equipment evaluation and design, facilities planning, development and design, project management, scheduling, project cost estimating and purchasing activities for new construction and retrofit bulk materials handling projects worldwide.
Douglas Planning Group, LLC (DPG), a subsidiary of InterMat, is a niche specialty firm Mr. Douglas founded in 2010 to offer focused, specialized consulting services to clients in the cargo transportation industry. In 11 years, DPG helped more than 50 clients complete over 200 projects across the United States and around the world. Services include experienced, detailed evaluations and analyses of port and terminal factors influencing expansion and modernization with particular attention to dry bulk materials handling equipment and operations. Expertise in bulk handling systems includes specialized designs to mitigate dust emissions, spillage, chute wear, plugged chutes and other common nuisance conditions.
Prior to forming DPG and joining InterMat, Mr. Douglas gained experience at TEC Inc. (now Cardno) completing Master Plans, Maritime Business Plans and terminal expansion plans/designs for public Port Authorities and private clients. Prior to this, Mr. Douglas worked for River Consulting, Inc. as a Senior Designer responsible for the development of bulk terminal engineering projects from conceptual development through final design. When River Consulting was acquired by Kinder Morgan Terminals (KMT), Mr. Douglas supported KMT’s mergers and acquisitions and expansion efforts, responsible for engineering and feasibility studies and expansion plans ranging in size and scope. Projects included site condition assessments, equipment and facility utilization studies, operations analysis, and conceptual planning for potential future development of facilities acquired by or considered for acquisition by KMT.
Mr. Douglas started his career as an equipment designer with El-Russ Aggregate Equipment and ThyssenKrupp (Canada), a recognized leader and global supplier of dry bulk handing equipment and complete terminal systems. His time was spent developing, designing and specifying large bulk handling projects that included traveling bridge stackers, shiploaders of various designs and configurations, overland conveyors, screening and crushing plants, open pit mining systems, and more.
